By popular demand, we’ve added a new and exciting afternoon summer cooking camp where jr. chefs will learn basic cooking skills, kitchen safety, and create delicious and nutritious recipes. This hands-on experience will not only teach our campers about food but also inspire them to be creative. Such a class structure ensures that kids not only have a blast but also learn fundamental cooking skills and the importance of healthy eating in a safe and engaging environment. Each day there is a different theme! See below.

Farm-to-Table: Emphasize local, seasonal produce from our farm and teach participants how to create dishes that highlight the flavors of the ingredients at their peak. Recipes include  - Roasted Vegetable Grain Bowls, Herb-Roasted Chicken and Wakeman Town Farm Peach Cobbler.

Asian Fusion: Create unique and exciting new dishes such as Korean BBQ Chicken Tacos with Asian Slaw and Japanese-Inspired Teriyaki Burgers combining elements from several cooking styles and drawing inspiration from a wide range of traditional dishes and preparing them in novel ways.

Cowboy Cookout: Dive into traditional simple yet hearty food cooked campstyle, such as a Chicken Sliders on Cornbread Muffins, Green Bean Salad, and Campfire S'mores.

Easy + Healthy: Prepare nutritious meals that are satisfying and easy to make, focusing on balanced and mindful eating. Veggie Stir Fry with Tofu, Baked Lemon Chicken and Rustic Fruit Crostata with Fresh Whipped Cream.

We often get out into the garden to hand-picking organic ingredients in this hands-on cooking experience that promotes teamwork, as well as cultural insights and concepts like seasonal eating. We enjoy the foods we prepare at the Farm.

Join us for an hour of quality time this summer with your child on the Farm, while connecting with other children and parents in the community. You’ll enjoy fun and developmentally appropriate experiences with your little one in a class designed to foster social skills and independence on our Farm's grounds. The highlight of this signature program is the hands-on experience visiting our furry and feathered farm friends. In this class we will be outdoors exploring the farm, visiting the animals, playing on the grounds, chatting with new friends, or simply following the kids’ interests.

Individual Classes on 7/29, 7/30 or 7/31 from 2-3 pm

Age 0 - 3 years, Up to 16 participants per class

1 Parent/Caregiver & 1 Child, $35 per class

Parents are expected to participate. Caregiver, sitter, family member, or another adult is welcome in lieu of parent.

Join us for a fun Sunday Pizza Experience at Westport’s Wakeman Town Farm, where you’ll learn how to make Neapolitan pizzas from Alexandra Castro, a true Neapolitan Pizza Association-Certified Chef, using the Farm’s beautiful outdoor Mugnaini wood-fired oven. During the experience, we will learn the process from start to finish, from making the Neapolitan dough, an authentic sauce, and, finally, baking the pies to perfection. This class is family-friendly, for adults and children at least 6 years old. We will be preparing the Neapolitan classic: Margherita, and enjoying it with fresh herbs from the Farm’s Gardens. Every guest will take home dough and the recipes to replicate the process at home!

You’ll learn firsthand:
-The Neapolitan method for mixing and kneading
-How to shape the dough and top it
-How to bake pizzas in a wood-fired oven
-Slice, top, and serve

The best part: We will sit outdoors (if weather cooperates) and enjoy eating our creations. You are welcome to bring your own beverages of choice. We will also have chilled waters on every table. This event is held rain or shine! The class will move indoors in the event of inclement weather.

Come to Wakeman Town Farm for the return of our biggest annual summer Family event. Kids are sure to have a blast taking part in our farm crafts and games, suitable for all ages. Be sure to walk the Farm to visit our animals, complete a scavenger hunt, watch the bubble show, and jam out to music from the band, Moss! We will have summer fun foods, such as burgers and hotdogs available for purchase, in addition to Italian ices and lemonade for all to enjoy.

Chef Bio: Chef Raquel graduated with highest honors from the Institute of Culinary Education after completing her externship at Le Bernardin. After working for catering companies Raquel began teaching at a few NYC based cooking studios until opening A Pinch of Salt over 10 years ago. Chef Raquel teaches cooking fundamentals to all ages, focusing on healthy, seasonal, inexpensive meals that are culturally sensitive and delicious. Furthermore, she has trained adults desiring employment in the culinary field who are now vendors of the Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative. In 2010 Chef Raquel’s work was recognized with an invitation to the White House South Lawn as a part of First Lady Obama’s Let’s Move initiative and in 2019 she was awarded Women Business of the Year by the Southern CT Black Chambers of Commerce.

Continuing our exploration of cooking with the herbs and produce of our gardens, this peak summer class will bring more fresh salads, sides, sauces and main dishes to your summer repertoire! Looking for a fun way to get you little ones helping you in the kitchen this Summer?  Send them our Adventures of Summer Cooking. This Kids’ Cooking Class is designed for kids who just completed grades K-2.

Dates: June 24, July 1, July 8, July 15    4:15-5:30 p.m.  

Chef Kathleen of Culinary Kids brings Summer Cooking Adventures to Tim’s Kitchen.  This class is age appropriate, with hands-on cooking and baking designed to impart skills through fun recipes. The kids will get creative and gain confidence in their cooking skills.  This introductory class includes seasonal sweet and savory snacks using kitchen tools and equipment to learn baking and cooking, measuring, math, and science. Classes are packed with the bounty from our WTF gardens.  At each class, we visit the gardens and animals and prepare the recipes with items we find.

Some of what we will make: Berry Cobbler with WTF Honey, Cowboy Cookout with Cornbread, Peas, Please Salad from the garden, Fruity Sorbets with zesty citrus and fruits and Asian Noodle Salad packed with vegetables and make-your-own dressing.

Wakeman Town Farm is excited to welcome Laura Miller back for a cheese, oil and vinegar pairing. In this class, Laura will teach how to make mozzarella and pair them with a variety of Delavignes Gourmet infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Artist and entrepreneur trained at Penn State Cheese & Cultured Dairy program, Laura Miller is a Farmer, Farrier, Chef, & Specialty Food Manufacturer. In addition to her Millmont Farm endeavors which include farm to table sustainable agriculture, she is also a Certified Journeyman Farrier I, a Chef with her own line of specialty olive oil and balsamic vinegars, “Delavignes Gourmet” products of the vine. Here's the skinny on Harvest Fest 2024, the Farm's biggest fundraising and food + wine event of the year. Tickets go on sale Aug 9 at 9 am. Held on the Farm grounds, under a tent draped with twinkling lights, Harvest Fest is a magical evening, featuring seasonal fare by local farmers and chefs, live music and more. Wine and signature cocktails will be flowing! In addition to fab food and drinks, there will be a live auction, including a variety of exclusive culinary and travel experiences, such as private chef dinners in our very own Tim’s Kitchen; VIP trips, an exclusive stay at Watch Hill's luxe Ocean House resort, a Wine Wall, and a Paddle Raise to help us raise funds for our renovated barn.

It's a FUN-Raiser!

We are doing the event cocktail-party style, with tents and multiple food stations (no sit-down dinner) so guests can mix and mingle. Please arrive on time, as the main food portion of the evening is from 6-7:30 pm. After the eating + drinking...we will be bringing the guests inside the tent for a live band, more drinks, dessert, and the real reason we are all here: The live auction and paddle raise to support the Farm’s renovated barn initiative. Once the live auction wraps, it's time to hit the dance floor and groove to our live band!

garden volunteer hours announced! join us!

Are you looking to get your hands dirty? Our open volunteer hours start next week! Join when you can and work with our Farmers in the WTF gardens. Spend an hour or so in the soil and help your community farm plant the seeds and seedlings that will become nourishing crops for the season that will be used in Farm cooking classes, dinners and farm stand. Some of the benefits of gardening include relieving stress, increasing endorphins, and lowering blood pressure. But, we do it because it’s a fun way to get out into the elements doing something meaningful and rewarding!

Adult Summer Solstice Vinyasa Flow Class at Wakeman Town Farm with Jennifer Seideman

Join us for a Vinyasa Class on the Solstice!

Scheduled exclusively on the eve of the summer solstice, this Vinyasa Yoga For Adults Class is set against the backdrop of Wakeman Town Farm's lovely vegetable and flower gardens and friendly animals. You'll experience a seriously fun Vinyasa class with a healthy emphasis on alignment in a serene, pastoral setting. Led by instructor Jennifer Seideman, participants can expect Sun Salutations (A & B), as well as moving through a creative sequence of poses, hip openers, shoulder openers, thigh stretching, twists, back bends, and forward folds.

I want to welcome all levels of yogis who want to move their bodies in community at this beautiful setting. The class will allow you to smile, sweat, and leave feeling like a way better version of ourselves.
